Legend of Zelda: Sages of Evil Part 1 By Susanne - SheikahWarrior@hotmail.com Chapter 1 "Link, wake up," a familiar voice whispered. Link just turned in his bed and fell asleep again. "Link!" The voice was demanding. With a groan, Link sat up in bed. "Who is it?" he yawned. "It's me, Sheik." Link looked around in the room. "Where?" he asked. "You can't see me. I'm talking to you telepathically." "Oh, I see. Where's the hurry?" The voice in his head suddenly turned worried. "It's Saria. I think...she's gone." "What?!" Link cried and rushed up from his bed. "How...?!" "I told you it was urgent! Now please listen to me. After you defeated Gannondorf, Saria went back to the Kokiri Forest to visit her people. I told her to contact me as soon as she had reached the forest. And I know it wouldn't take her more than a few minutes to get there using her magic powers. and even if she didn't, it wouldn't take her more than one day from here." "Where are you?" Link asked. "I'm in the Temple of Time. You know the way to get here. It doesn't take you more than a day to reach this temple from the forest, unless you warp or ride." Link stretched out his hand and grabbed the Master Sword and his Hylian Shield. He equipped his other stuff and went out of the room. "Still there?" he asked the voice in his head. "Yes, I'm here," Sheik replied. "Where are you now, Link?" "I'm in Kakariko Village, but I can easily warp to the Forest Temple." "Come quick. I'm worried about Saria." "So am I. Meet me in the Sacred Forest Meadow." Link finished talking to Sheik and felt how the young man's presence in his head faded away. He left the house and took out his ocarina. He played the "Minuet of Forest", and the next second he stood outside the Temple of Forest. He turned around and saw Sheik standing at the entrance to the temple. "Oh, Link, there you are. I didn't expect you so early." Link smiled. "I didn't stop to eat breakfast, if that's what you mean." He used his hookshot to reach the temple. "I asked the Kokiri, and they told me that Saria went here," Sheik told him. "She was in the forest, after all." They both entered the temple. Suddenly, two wolves popped out of the ground. "How annoying!" Sheik sighed and cast a spell their way. The two wolves disappeared into the ground again. Link just watched him, with a smile in his face. "How come that they didn't send you to save Hyrule?" he asked Sheik. "Me? You are the Hero of Time, not I." "Well, I've never told you that I enjoy being the Hero of Time. I'm in it for the fighting. And you," he pointed towards the place where the two wolves disappeared, "you're better than me." "You're a bad boy, Link," Sheik said. "I'm not. That's why you're the hero." They entered the next room. A big spider blocked their way. Sheik got ready to cast another spell, but Link stopped him. "It's my turn." He swung his sword, and suddenly there wasn't anything left of the spider. "So that's how you heroes do it," Sheik said. "Yes, we heroes prefer to let the sword talk." The next room they entered was a big room, lit up with four torches. "Follow me," Link said. He runned down the stairs and walked slowly towards the middle of the floor. They both stepped down the small stair and to middle of the four torches. Suddenly, they went down the floor on a hidden elevator. When the elevator stopped, Sheik and Link jumped off. Link walked straight up to the boss door, followed by Sheik. He opened the big door and went in. Some big pictures was covering the walls. Sheik looked around and turned to Link. "What are we doing here? You've already killed this boss, right?" Link didn't answer. Instead, he bent down and picked up something. "Look!" he said to Sheik. He held up an object "It's Saria's ocarina!" Chapter 2 Princess Ruto was swimming in the fountain, when Link and Sheik found her. "Is Saria here?" Link panted. "Saria? You mean the Sage of Forest?" Ruto asked. "Yes, Saria," Link said, trying to breathe normal. They had runned the whole way from the temple to Zora's Domain, because Sheik was to upset to use magic. "No, she's not around. She's not in the Chamber of Sages, either." Then the princess smiled. "What brought you here so quickly? Was it Saria? Or did you want to see me?" "Err...well, to be honest..."Link stuttered. "I knew it! You still love me!" Ruto nearly broke his ribs as she gave him a hug. "You came here to see me!" "Actually, we're just looking for Saria," Link said carefully. "She's gone." "Gone?" Ruto let him go. "A Sage can't be 'gone' like that. We don't disappear." "Well, Saria's disappeared. And we don't know where to look for her," Sheik said. Princess Ruto looked confused. "Why don't you ask Darunia about her?" she said after a short pause. "Maybe he knows something?" "Good idea," Link smiled. "Thanks, Ruto." "The pleasure was all mine. Come back when you've find her, Link." Then she dived back into the water. Link took out his ocarina. "Shall I warp us to the Death Mountain Crater or are you using your magic?" "Please don't go to any trouble for me, Link," Sheik answered. "Are you imaging things?" Link asked. "Should I?" "All right, all right! I WILL use my ocarina." He sighed. "And you'll have to wait while I change clothes. If I don't wear the Goron Tunic, I'll be boiling." "Oh, that's no problem. I can protect you from the heat. I have special powers, you know." "You're such a rogue!" "I know." A few minutes later, they stood in the crater. Link went across the bridge and used his hookshot to get past the broken part of it. Then he turned to Sheik. "Are you going to lend this?" he said, and waved the hookshot around. "Though nothing could give me more pleasure, I think I'll say no." "I mean, you're quite welcome to stay there." "Don't worry about me," Sheik said. The next second, he stood next to Link. "I told you, no problem." As they were about to enter Darunia's room from behind, Link turned to Sheik. "No more joking, OK?" "What? Am I making fun of you?" "You? How could you believe that?" "You must excuse me. I'm so worried about Saria that I have to get my mind of it, somehow." "All right," Link sighed. "I'll forgive you - for this time." They entered the room. The first person they saw was Darunia, sitting on the floor. "Darunia? What's up?" Link asked. The king of the Gorons turned to him. "Hello brother. I'm just thinking about Hyrule's safety." Darunia got on feet again. "I'm a little sad. Do you think you can play that forest song for me?" "The forest song...well, of cour...the song!" Link yelled. "Sheik!" "What?" Sheik asked, completely confused. "Saria's Song! I can play it and talk to her through my ocarina!" He didn't wait for Sheik to answer. Instead, he took out his ocarina and played the song. Then he waited. Among all darkness, Saria heard a familiar song. She listened, and realized that it was calling her. "It must be Link," she whispered quietly to herself. "Link, this is Saria. Can you hear me?" I hope he can, she thought with a sting of despair. "Saria?" she heard Link's voice. "Where are you? We've been looking everywhere for you!" "You must help me, Link! I'm imprisoned by an evil magician, who's going to use my powers to destroy Hyrule!" "Just stay calm, Saria. I'll be with you any moment. Where are you?" "Beyond the Kokiri Forest lies a place I've never seen before. It's called the Dark Lands and it's terrible here!" "How do I get there?" Link asked. "The entrance lies..." "Where?" "The magician's coming! Please, Link! You have to help me! The entrance lies in my house!" Link took a deep breath. "But how come-" A scream interrupted him. Then, it became silent. "What did she say?" Sheik asked. She's...imprisoned...by an evil magician." Link found it hard to talk. "He's going to use...her powers to...destroy...Hyrule." "But...can he do that without the other Sages? Doesn't he have to imprison all the Sages?" "Oh no!" "What?" Sheik asked. "Princess Ruto is in danger! I can feel it!" Chapter three This time, Sheik used his magic powers to reach Zora's Domain quickly. As soon as they got there, Link ran up the stairs to talk to the king. "Where is Ruto?" he cried. "I was just about to ask you the same thing, Link. She's not around, and we can't find her anywhere! Please, Link! Help us!" "I know where she is. The trouble is that I don't know how to get there." "What are you talking about?" Link told him the story about the magician. King Zora's face grew more worried as he got to the part when Saria screamed. "What's he doing to them?" the king said. "Can't they use their powers against that magician?" "I don't think so. He wouldn't have been capable of capturing them if they had used their powers. After all, they are Sages." "But..." the king said. "There's not much I can do, Zora. I'm sorry. I'll have to follow Saria's instructions and head for the Kokiri Forest right away. Come on, Sheik." "But what if it's a trap? What about Saria's ocarina that we found in the temple?" Sheik asked. "Saria would never lie to us. I think the magician put it there to confuse us." "But the Kokiri said that Saria went to the temple," Sheik declared. "Were they lying?" "No," Link said. "They couldn't have betrayed us." "But if they were under a spell?" "I hear many 'buts' in this conversation, Sheik," Link sighed. "Why don't we just go to the forest and find out what's going on?" "You're right. Let's go." "Goodbye, king Zora," Link said. "I'll try to find your daughter, I promise." "Thanks, Link," the king said. "I can't do it myself, I'm afraid." Sheik and Link went out of Zora's Domain and followed the river to get to Hyrule Field. Link summoned Epona with "Epona's Song". The horse came running, and Link and Sheik climbed her up. A few minutes later, when they walked out in the Kokiri Forest, they saw a group of Kokiris standing outside Saria's house. They went there. "What's going on?" Link asked one of the twins. "Saria is gone, mister! She went into her house but now she's gone! And nobody saw her leaving the house, either." "But where is she, then?" Link asked. "We don't know, mister. She's not to be found anywhere! Please, help us to find her." Sheik sighed and turned to Link. "Now what, mister?" "Let's go inside Saria's house." It was so familiar and homelike that Link almost felt tears come into his eyes. This was his best friend's house, but she was gone, and she had left her things just like Link remembered them. He looked around and tried to find some kind of a secret entrance, but found no signs of such a thing. Sheik walked up to Saria's bed and sat down. "Maybe you're supposed to play something? Saria may've played a tune that warped her to that place." "Good idea," Link answered. He took out his ocarina and started to play "Zelda's Lullaby". He played "Song of Storms" ans "Song of the Sun". He played all tunes he knew, but nothing happened. Sheik took out his own instrument. With a sigh, he went across the room, and then he stood next to Link. "Let's try another song." "But I don't know any more songs!" "Let's try my song." "Your song?" Link asked, confused. Sheik nodded. "Yes, I have more songs to teach you, Link. I just didn't want to teach you this one. It's called the 'Lament of Death'. Follow me through it." He started to play a song. It was enough scary to make Link's hand tremble as he played it with the Sheikah. Then they waited. Link was just about to say something, when a dark cloud filled the room. A groaning sound came from the middle of it. "Quick!" Sheik cried and grabbed Link's arm. They ran into the cloud and felt how they fell down. Down into nothing but darkness. Chapter four The people in Gerudo Fortress saw the sun rise above the horizon. Night turned to day, and the few sleeping Gerudos woke up. Today was a day just like all the other days. Since the beginning of time, the days had been coming and going. Today, however, the Gerudos would experience a different kind of day - just like the other people around Hyrule. "Look!" one of the Gerudo guards yelled. "The sun!" All the Gerudos ran out of the fortress and watched the sun. It became darker and darker. Malon looked up and watched the sky. "Dad, I think there's a storm coming. We have to take the horses inside." Talon yawned and turned to her. "Yes, you're right. Take the horses to their stable. I'll try to get the chickens inside." They both went to take the animals inside to protect them from the tempest that was on its way. When Malon walked out of the stable again, she found her father, looking at the sky with open mouth. "Malon...look!" he whispered. "The sun - it's turning black!" The darkness climbed all the way up the Death Mountain. It laid Zora's River and the entire Hyrule Field in shadows. The castle stood all dark, and Kakariko Village disappeared into the darkness. Only a small part of Hyrule wasn't dark. It was a little piece of the Kokiri Forest. If you had looked closer, you'd have seen that it was a house. An ordinary house. The house of a Kokiri girl. It was Saria's house. They didn't see the sun. They didn't worry about the sun. They didn't care about the sun right now. It was so dark that they could barely see eachother. Link and Sheik slowly made their way across the darkness around them. They were in some sort of a cave, Link guessed. "Sheik, can't you use your magic to produce some light?" he whispered. "I've tried," Sheik answered. "My magic doesn't work here." "That explains why Saria and Ruto can't escape, don't you think?" "Maybe magic doesn't exist here," Sheik whispered back. "But Navi can exist here, and she's a fairy," Link murmured. "Fairies are magic creatures, after all. And the Great Fairies gave me my magic powers." "Well, then your magic should work." Link became silent for a moment. "Shall I try?" he asked after a short while. "No, I think you should save it to a moment when you really need it." "But if it doesn't work when I really need it? That would be a very unpleasant surprise for me." Sheik thought about it. "All right. Do a sword swing or something." "OK," Link whispered. He swung his sword and hold it in swing position for a while, to let it power up. Then he released it. A magic fire flame appeared. "It's working," Sheik observed. "Good. I won't use more magic power than necessary, from now on." They continued to search for a way out in the total darkness. Chapter five The magician saw Link and Sheik in a magic mirror. As they found the door which was the path to another cave, the magician laughed. "I bet they won't like my little surprise in there." Sheik and Link opened the door and entered a smaller room. Their eyes was blinded by a glaring light. Link tried to protect his eyes while he pulled his sword out. "There's something in here, but I can't see it. We've been walking too long in the dark," he said to Sheik. "I'll have to fight without even seeing what I'm up against." "My eyes hurt," Sheik said. "I can't see a thing." Suddenly, the blinding light faded away, and it returned to normal, but a little darker than they expected. "Someone's making fun of us," Sheik said. "This is the perfect light for our eyes right now. Why would anyone give us the perfect light if they want to see us lose a fight?" "I don't know," Link answered. "Maybe this is the perfect light for the one we're going to fight, too." An enormous shape started to form in the other side of the room. "Something's coming!" Link cried. "Sheik, prepare to fight!" "With what?!" "Don't you have a sword?" Link asked him. "I didn't expect this to happen, you know. I have no weapons at all." Link sighed. "Here, take this." He handled over his Fairy bow and the Megaton Hammer. "That's all I can afford you," Link said. "If you don't want the Biggoron's Sword." "I think it's a little to heavy for me," Sheik answered him. "Here he comes!" Link cried. It was a huge monster. Its teeth were long, yellow and dripping with slime. It was about 14 feet tall and had a disgusting green color. The monster's face was grinning and he roared something. "What's he saying?" Link asked Sheik. "I think he's trying to say 'die', but I'm not sure." "That feels reassuring." Link attacked the monster while Sheik sneaked behind him, trying to find a weak point. While he was looking, Link was fighting. He slashed the monster's legs with his sword. Nothing happened. Well, the monster became angry, that was all. "Uhh...Sheik? I could really use some help here," Link said. "Wait, Link. I'm busy right now." "I'm dying right now!" "Take it easy." "Easy? He's trying to kill me!" "I know, Link. That's what I'm trying to do something about." Sheik swung the Megaton Hammer and hit the monster's toes. A loud roar telled him that the monster didn't like it. "Try to hit him in the face, Link! I'll make him bend over you." "Thanks, Sheik. I'd really like him to breathe in my face." Sheik swung the hammer again, and the monster bent over Link, just as he had thought he would. Link slashed him in the face with the Master Sword, and the monster gave up a loud shriek. Sheik used the bow to fire an arrow in his face, and the monster tried to pull it out, but it was stuck in his only eye, so he couldn't see anything. "Quick!" Sheik cried. "Finish him, Link! Use your sword!" Link powered up a magic swing with his sword and released it when the monster bent over him again. A groan came from the monster, and it fell down on the floor. "That did it," Link said. "Thanks for your help, Sheik." "I think I'm beginning to like this," Sheik smiled. "It's very entertaining." "I know. That's why I'm doing it." Chapter six Suddenly, a door opened behind Sheik. Link and he went through it, and found themselves in a dark room again. They were groping for a wall when Link stopped. "Wait! I hear voices! This way!" He grabbed Sheik's arm and went to the left side of the room. He put his hand on the wall and felt the shape of a door. He was sure that the voices came from behind that door. "Here's a door," he told Sheik. "The voices comes from the other side of it." "It's good to have your Hylian ears here, Link," Sheik smiled. "I'm not sure about that," Link said. "Maybe it's a trap." He opened the door and they both went in. Sheik closed the door behind them. They stood in some kind of a corridor, lit up with torches. The voices came from the farthern end of the corridor. "Let's check it out," Link said. Quietly, they made their way through the corridor and reached the end of it within a minute. Some bars were blocking their way. "Hello? Anybody there?" Link asked. "Link? Is that you?" a voice whispered. "Saria!" Link yelled. He put his hands on the bars and tried to get through. He felt them yield, and with Sheik's help, he was able to destroy them. He rushed in, and saw Saria sitting on the floor, with chains around her hands and feet. Princess Ruto lied next to her, and she was very ill. "Ruto needs some water, Link!" Saria said. "She's dying!" "I think I have a bottle of water with me," Link said. He searched through his equipment and found the four bottles. One of them was filled with a potion of some kind, and the other one was empty. The third bottle contained some bugs. The last bottle had a Fairy in it. He held up the Fairy in front of Saria. "I don't have any water, but do you think this would do it?" "I don't know, Link. You'll have to try. And do it fast!" He opened the bottle and let the Fairy fly out. It circled around the room and found princess Ruto on the floor. It whirled around her. "Yes, that's the one," Link said. "Try to heal her." The Fairy spinned around the princess and disappeared. They waited for a reaction. "Come on, Ruto," Link whispered. Slowly, the princess started to move. Her eyes opened and she sat up and looked around. "Where am I?" she asked. "What happened?" "You're a prisoner in the Dark Lands," Saria answered her. "The magician brought you here." "Yes, I remember HER," Ruto murmured. "That woman cast a spell on me and I fainted. But I don't know when I got here." "Woman?!" Link and Sheik asked. "Wait a minute," Link said. "Are we fighting a woman?" "Yes, Link, she's a woman, but she could as well be a demon or something," Saria said. "She's horrible!" "But what is she?" Sheik asked. "She's a Sage of Evil," Saria answered. That ends part one. If you want to read part two you'll have to wait a little...
